Environmental Technology Forum within VDMA

VDMA (the German Engineering Federation) is the lobby of almost 3,000 - mainly small and medium sized - companies of the mechanical engineering industry. These enterprises are representing more than 40% of the European capital goods industry with approx. 900,000 employees, an annual production rate of 129 billion euro and an export share of almost 70%. The international reputation of this innovative industry is ensured by a variety of more than 20,000 high-tech products manufactured.

The mechanical engineering industry is rather heterogeneous in the field of environmental technology and ranges from engineering providers via component suppliers to the providers of complete disposal and waste treatment plants. The main customer industries are public and private waste disposal companies as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, the food processing and beverage industry, energy supply companies as well as the metal­working industry.

The majority of the 250 manufacturing technology companies organized within VDMA providing environmental treatment technology are medium-sized companies employing less than 150 employees in average. These companies are highly flexible and have reached leading positions by their environmental technology know-how. The turnover volume of the industry amounts to 3 billion euro.

Der Maschinen- und Anlagenbau im Bereich der Umwelttechnik ist eine heterogene Branche und reicht vom Engineering-Unternehmen über Komponentenlieferanten bis hin zu Anbietern kompletter Entsorgungs- und Behandlungsanlagen. Wichtige Abnehmerbranchen sind die öffentlichen und privaten Entsorgungsunternehmen, die chemische und pharmazeutische Industrie, die Nahrungsmittel- und Getränkeindustrie, die Energieversorgungsunternehmen sowie die metallverarbeitende Industrie.

Die Mehrzahl der im VDMA organisierten ca. 250 Anbieter von nachsorgender Umweltverfahrenstechnik sind mittelständische Unternehmen und beschäftigen im Durchschnitt weniger als 150 Mitarbeiter. Diese Firmen verfügen über hohe Flexibilität und haben mit ihrem umwelttechnischen Know-how Spitzenpositionen er­reicht. Das Umsatzvolumen der Branche beträgt rund 3 Mrd. euro.
