The Association of Suppliers of Environmental Equipment and Techniques (VLM) has been in existence since 1983. The 70 member companies are specialised in environmental technology. Each company concentrates on one or more areas of the environmental field. The VLM is a branch of the 'Vereniging FME-CWM', the association of enterprises in the mechanical, metalworking, plastics, electronic and electrical engineering industries and allied sectors. Each VLM member company has specific environmental know-how, applicable in plants and equipment in order to reduce or to prevent environmentally harmful emissions. Supplying technological solutions, preventing emissions at the source and developing new technologies are an integral part of their production process. VLM members have developed a wide diversity of techniques to various kinds of waste streams. Whether dealing with industrial or domestic waste water, domestic or chemical waste, slurry or sewage sludge, there is an efficient and environmentally acceptable way of dealing with it. Dust or odour emissions are also important activities in this branch of industry.

Sinds 1983 bestaat de Vereniging van Leveranciers van Milieuapparatuur en -technieken (VLM). De circa 70 lidondernemingen zijn gespecialiseerd in milieutechnologie. Deze bedrijven richten zich op één of meerdere segmenten van het brede milieuterrein. De VLM is een branche van de Vereniging FME-CWM, de vereniging van ondernemingen in de metaal-, kunststof-, elektronica- en elektrotechnische industrie en aanverwante sectoren. Gemeenschappelijk kenmerk van VLM-leden is het bezit van milieuspecifieke kennis voor toepassing in installaties voor het verminderen of voorkomen van milieubelastende emissies. Zij leveren technologische oplossingen die deze emissies aan de bron voorkomen en ontwikkelen technologieën die kunnen worden geïntegreerd in produktieprocessen. VLM-leden hebben voor diverse soorten afvalstromen een aanpak ontwikkeld. Of het nu gaat om industrieel of stedelijk afvalwater, huishoudelijk of chemisch afval, mest of slib, er is een manier om daar efficiënt en vanuit milieuoogpunt verantwoord mee om te gaan. Ook emissies van stof of stank zijn belangrijke werkgebieden van bedrijven uit deze branche.
